30/9/12
It was
with regret that we left Port Gibbon this morning. On our way towards the
highway we came across a herd of sheep being walked along the road by a man on
foot, a dog and a woman in a Hilux. I had a chat to the young man and decided
to make his life a lot easier by not driving both caravans through his herd. We
were at a cross intersection, where going straight ahead through the sheep
would lead to the highway, or turning left and following that road would also
lead to the highway. With waves and smiles all round we left the man, woman and
dog and headed for the highway taking the road to the left.
After the sheep,
our first stop was at Cowell. To our surprise it was a fairly large town and
was larger than Tumby Bay. As we drove up the main street I was horrified to
find there were Sunday Markets in progress. Karen and Mary-Anne were salivating
at the prospect of browsing the markets and when I suggested that we continue
onto Whyalla without stopping I got the LOOK!! After picking up some good
bargains at the markets we continued our journey to Whyalla.
We stopped at an
information bay just on the outskirts of town and had lunch before continuing
onto the Visitor Information Centre. We selected the Whyalla Caravan Park as
our base for 3 days. It was the NRL Grand Final day so everything else was put
on hold as far as I was concerned. Mary-Anne and Karen did some knitting,
reading and relaxing.
