27/9/12
We
packed and left our rest area and had only driven 3kms when we found an
historical building standing alone and overlooking Lake Hamilton. It turned out
to be the Lake Hamilton Eating House and was built in 1850. It was built by
Price Maurice and was used as a stopping place by Cobb and Co coaches and
travellers. We continued on and arrived at Coffin Bay. There was a small jetty
and a few people were fishing. The water is crystal clear and we could see
hundreds of fish hiding under the jetty. It was a nice place but we all
preferred Venus Bay.
We
eventually arrived at Port Lincoln at about midday. Our first stop was at the
Visitors Information Centre and the girls obtained information about the
caravan parks. We chose the Port Lincoln Tourist Park and booked in. We were
provided with two small sites that were on the side of a hill and nowhere to
park the cars. We were not impressed Jan!!! In the afternoon we had a drive
around town and were impressed by the number of great old stone houses that
still existed. We went for a drive out of town to North Shields and had a walk
on the beach. Then we drove back into town and found the Makybe Diva bronze
statue in a park at the town beach. Then we drove to Winter's Hill lookout that
had spectacular views in all directions. The panorama of Boston Bay and Boston
Island was matched by the green rolling hills and pastures that stretched away
in the distance. We drove past the marina and onto Billy Lights Point overlooking
Porter Bay. There was a boat ramp and motorhome camping area at Billy Lights Point.
On the
way home we stopped at a seafood warehouse and I bought one (1) fresh live
Coffin Bay oyster. Karen bought some fish and Mary-Anne bought a packet of
frozen chips. When we arrived back at the caravan park I opened my oyster and
ate it without getting sick. With hormones running at peak performance Karen
and I retired early that night.
