10/10/12
We were
up early today and steeled ourselves for the drive across town in peak hour
traffic to find Peter Kittle Toyota. We left the caravan park at 8.00am and
followed Brendon's directions. Mary-Anne was following behind and cars kept
getting in between us and holding her up. Without too many dramas we arrived at
the Toyota Dealer at 9.15am. The traffic was very heavy and there must have
been two million sets of traffic lights we had to drive through and they were
all red.
We
dropped off the Prado and jumped into Mary-Anne's Patrol and headed for the Barossa
Valley. On the way we found a Jaycar shop with a Ray's Outdoors beside it. I
bought a replacement computer fan for the 3-way fridge in the van and Mary-Anne
exchanged a spare wheel cover for a larger size. At Ray's Karen bought a
$130.00 arctic jacket for $25.00. (Must have been old stock.)
Our next
stop was at the town of Gawler. We found the Information Centre and toilets in
that order. In the Information Centre we discovered that the TV show ‘McCloud’s
Daughters’ was filmed at an historic homestead not far from Gawler. It is now a
B&B and a night stay will cost anywhere from $800.00 to $1000.00 a night.
We left
the Information Centre and found a park overlooking Goose Island, a former
market garden on an island in the middle of the river. There we had lunch in
the shade of huge River Red Gums.
After lunch we
drove to the small town of Lyndoch. We parked in the main street and went for a
walk. The girls found a craft shop and spent all their money there. Nearby was a German Bakery. I had to shout vanilla slices and an apple danish
cause the girls had no money left. From Lyndoch we drove around the Barossa
Valley and saw many wineries with well-known names. We didn't stop at any
because none of us are winos and it was raining.
We made
our way back to Peter Kittle Toyota and collected the Prado after 2.30pm. Then
we had the drive across town again to return to the caravan park.
