19/8/12
We said goodbye to Busselton this morning and headed south towards Augusta. On the way we stopped at Cowaramup and the girls attacked the MuKau craft shop again while I waited patiently with the cars and caravans. We eventually made it to Augusta and our first stop was the Visitor Information Centre. The girls selected the Westbay Caravan Park which is privately owned. It is set on 14 acres of bush with cleared areas for caravans. The atrium amenities block is spectacular and was hand built by the owner. There are even fossil plants on the shale tiles above the urinal to cap off a relieving experience. In the afternoon we drove out to the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse which was built in 1895/96. We walked the grounds but did not take the lighthouse tour. We saw where the Great Southern Ocean meets the gay Indian Ocean. We all realised that finally we have made it to the bottom of the west coast after 3 months and from now on our travels will take us mostly east to God's country and normality - where the sun rises and sets where it should. We also visited the old water wheel which was built on a spring to supply water to the lighthouse keepers' quarters. Over the years the minerals in the water have calcified over the wheel making it look like a large rock. You can still see a small portion of the wheel if you look hard enough.
